Based on my character's experience (37 months):
On a regular basis, I never make chest run....
treasure hunter title & wisdom title were rising up at same level, then one year ago "rare" items dropped less frequently ====> Today THT = 1349 & Wt = 1077.
As it has already been said Anet tweaks patterns.
All in all I don't mind its a game.

Noobs get a good 'special' drop bonus of about 2x other players but it dies after running the map anywhere from a couple to a dozen times. Special is like gems, ecto, or item that's rare but is really a far less frequent drop than other golds.
I've seen this everywhere. Farming elemental swords, got 2 the first weekend, then it went to hell. Farming DoA full runs, I would get gem drops everywhere when I started, then I would get nothing besides the chests over time. Doing UW runs, the noobs get biggest ecto share.
I think this is what confuses people about "how did that person get so incredibly lucky?" In many cases they did because the game is designed for that, for just a small burst anyway. Just ask them how much they've played the area and the lucky person usually says first time or barely ever. Then you have ACTUAL instances of lucky which makes it confusing, but from all I've ever observed the only rigging is that noobs have a short window of boosted chances, then they level out like everyone else.

I have to say, and I've been playing for 3+ years, that some people do have far more than "average" good luck.
I know of one player that seams to have extreme luck when it comes to everything in GW.
I have gone on chest runs with him and he got perfect golds 3 chests in a row + retained his lockpicks...I broke mine and got purples..
He got a white rabbit for 3rd year Bday, I got the simian...
He's far from a newb as he has God Amongst Mortals title and is very rich...
Though I can't complain about my luck being all bad, I've had my share of great drops, but he just never seams to have a bad day. If he went into UW with an empty skill bar I could imagine him wanding the Dying Nightmare and getting an Ecto to drop from it!

Yeah, I've noticed the drop rate is really weird. It seems to have a separate "luck" factor built in for each account on a per area basis. UW blows the big one for me, even before perma-SF. I'd do 3-4 runs as 600/smite (2 people, not heroes) about once a week. I stopped after I got no ectos or golds for 3 weeks running. HFFF is the most reliable way of making money. Boring as all hell though.
CoF seems alright for me, usually get 1 or 2 golds and a boat load of junk to salvage for materials.

I even noticed it with chests. I went solo chest running(to get lvl 1 treasure hunter title) and out of 100 chests i got about 7 golds(most were jade wands). A friend of mine did the same and out of about 30 he got 20 golds(most were bows/swords/shields).

right, because the random nature of drop assignment alone could not possibly account for some people getting more drops than others.
really, your bad luck is just that: bad luck.
if you were to play for >9000 time, your drop rate would be much more consistent

Old thread is old. Unfortunately, the drop assignment mystery is not.
I couldn't care less what others get for golds/greens. I make plenty of money from IDing whites.

Yeah, when EotN came out, I was hastily farming Superb Charr Carvings to get the mask (before every monk with FoW and Chaos Gloves had it) and my friends who helped me farmed always got the carvings. Not me. Of course, they gave them to me, but still! I barely got any! For example, after killing everything, my friend had around 11, I had 2. That's some BS.
And we were farming UW, I got 5 ectos, my friend got 0. A bit messed up, but hell, I'm not complaining for that.

Well, aside from the fact that GW is a computer program and hence cannot generate truly random numbers, meaning loot dropping isn't truly random, it's just a good pretense at being truly random.

Some characters do seem to be luckier than others. I think your character rolls a luck number when the are created just like D&D. And like it or not that's the number you get to live with. I think a fairer way would be to assign luck to each player as they logged in. That way you could have a lucky day or a bad day but it would not always be the same person having all the good luck.
I would be extremely curious to hear from the devs about luck in the game, and how it works!

Random huh?
Try this..
Enter an area and log all your Green Drops, Gold Drops, Purple Drops, Blue Drops. Count them all up and file that info under run #1.
Keep entering the same area and keep logging the data for 10-20 runs.
Pretty soon, you will end up with no golds, no purples, a very rare blue item, and all the chests will only drop purple items.
Time does have an effect on bad drop rates.
But this is just my observation, they say it isnt there, but you know and i know...it really is.
Do what i do.. dont get mad about it..go farm the crap out of white trash..sell it and go buy what you want.
No anti farm code... ya right.

Luck is luck, in real life and in the game, i farm everyday, open chest with my gvg and halls faction everyday, get nothing nice ever save for a crystalline every once and a while, my friend metal on he other hand goes out and opens up a chest with one z-key and gets a tran tonic everlasting. if that doesn't show how luck can screw you i don't know what does, but even with that being minorly irritating, i still congratulate the guy, as he deserves what fate throws him.

The devs could really make it simple for us to see wether or not the LS is working correctly. All they have to do is show us the counters for each area as we progress or just a summary at the end (or right after you enter a new area, get the summary of the one that just ended). You could even see if you noob heroes got all the good drops and you got all the white trash.
They could kill all these LS threads all at once! It looks like they actually like these threads and enjoy watching how far they get.

31 months playing, don't farm, i play the game so no repeated killing of any one single boss for the drop, and my green weapon drops is up to today roughly 8 pieces or less.
just want to say, i kill wing more than 20 times in those day just passing him to get to somewhere, yes i kill everything going out on a map. lol consider yourself lucky.

I know the feeling of lousy drops. It makes me soo mad when I'm in a group with a know-it-all, noob, or leecher and they're the ones that get the golds and good drops. The rest of us get whites and blues, purples if we're lucky. Grrr...
